Grand Plans For MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Amazon Planning 3.2 Million-Square-Foot Warehouse

Amazon wants to build a new warehouse near Exit 27 off the New York State Thruway. The 3.2-million-square-foot distribution center would be located in the town of Florida, outside Amsterdam. That’s in Montgomery County, about 35 miles northwest of Albany. The facility would use robotic storage systems instead of traditional warehouse racking, the Business Review said. Orders would be picked, packed, and shipped 24 hours, seven days a week to local delivery centers.

At least 750 people would work at the center over three shifts a day. Amazon would hire hundreds more part-time and seasonal workers, according to the Business Review. Officials expect Amazon to apply for tax benefits for the project. Montgomery County is also home to a 1.9 million-square-foot Target distribution center and several other smaller warehouses. The Amazon site would be across from Target’s. Construction would cost several hundred million dollars and create at least 300 jobs, according to the Business Review.
